The 2024 Western Regional and FITASC Grand Slam was held at the Pinnacle at Ben Avery in Phoenix, Arizona from March 6th - 10th. As the first NSCA Tour Stop of the year, tensions were high and competitors were ready for action to be underway. Located almost directly thirty minutes north of Downtown Phoenix, Ben Avery offers an open desert landscape with scattered saguaro cacti, desert, soil crust, and low vegetation perfect for championship style targets. After a rather challenging Main Event where all competitors were tested with speed and distance on the courses, Anthony Matarese Jr. came out on top with an astonishing final score of 193/200 with a 96 on the Beretta Course and a 97 on the Winchester Course. This win for Anthony Matarese Jr. came shortly after his transition to his new competition firearm the Beretta SL2 which made it even more impressive. This spectacular performance gave Matarese a 7 Target High Overall win in the Main Event. Zachary Kienbaum placed Runner Up in the Main Event with a 186/200 and Theo Ribbs III was Third with a consistent pair of 92’s for a 184/200 total. In the Ladies Division, Desirae Edmunds won High Overall with a 177/200, Grace Choe was Runner Up with a 174/200, and Karen Miles was Third with a 173/200. The 200 Bird FITASC Grand Slam was shot over 8 parcours of “old style” FITASC and was won by Arizona native Gebben Miles with a score of 190/200. Anthony Matarese Jr. and Brandon Powell tied for Runner Up just one target short of Gebben, on 189’s/200. Matarese ended up placing Runner Up and Powell was Third. In the Ladies Division, Karen Miles had a strong 7 target win with a 184/200, Amber Brown was Runner Up with a 177/200, and Desirae Edmunds was Third with a 176/200.
