2023 Southeast Regional Recap

The 2023 Southeast Regional was held at Big Red Oak Plantation in Gay, Georgia from May 30th - June 4th. Big Red Oak is a venue in west Georgia known for more than just clay shooting as it boasts a large acreage that is used for all types of hunting in addition to the sporting clays. Many shooters are familiar with Big Red Oak as this club hosted the U.S. Open back in 2017 and many other large tournaments since. Besides the great clay shooting and event attractions that Big Red Oak has to offer, the clubs southern hospitality is nothing short of anything and everything a shooter wants to experience when at a tournament. Big Red Oak's event team did a remarkable job of making the most out of their gigantic property by laying out each event in totally different places throughout their space. This club could be known as a target setters playground as there are so many places on the ground for a course designer to simply cut loose. There is a large variety of backgrounds and landscapes as this region of the state offers a vast combination of dense pine woods, open flats, rolling hills, bodies of water, and more. There is simply very little that Big Red Oak does not have in store. The Main Event was shot over three different courses which were the red, white, and blue. Three day regional Main Events have recently become more common as the sport continues to grow in attendance at tournaments and clubs have the land and staff to comfortably run three Main Event courses. Todd Hitch won HOA in the Main Event by a big four target margin over the next closest shooter who was Brandon Powell with a 187/200 for Runner Up. Anthony Matarese Jr. was third with a 186/200. In the ladies category, Haylyn Hanks won the Main Event with a 182/200 and Karen Miles was Runner Up with a 180/200. Desirae Edmunds was third with a 175/200. In the 200 bird FITASC Grand Slam Tour Event, Connor Daniel won HOA joining Joseph Fanizzi as being the only other 15 year old to ever win a Grand Slam Tour Stop since the start of the Grand Slam Tour in 2019. The 2024 Southeast Regional will be held from April 10th - 14th at the beautiful Forest City Gun Club in Savannah, Georgia.
