Pretoria, South Africa · Men · Class of 2024 · Afrikaans High School for Boys

Bio

My high school journey started when I stepped onto the grounds of the Afrikaans High School for Boys. The school, located in the capital city of South Africa, has built up more than a century of solid traditions, good values and excellent educational records. It is affectionately referred to as ‘Affies’ and I will continue as such out of loyalty and pride for my Alma Mater. In December 2023 I graduated from this exceptional school and thereby closed this chapter of my life. I started my five years at Affies with the aim to achieve excellent academic grades, but I now realise that I also grew into the core value system of Affies. As a result, I consider myself a seasoned academic scholar, who also embraces lasting values, such as loyalty, self-discipline and humility. I received academical honors at the end of each year from grade 9 to 12. This results in a combined GPA score of *** out of 4. On 26 August 2023 I took the SAT test and achieved a combined score of ****/1600 with a *** for the reading and writing section and a *** for the Math section. At the end of matric I graduated with 7 distinctions (7 out of 7 subjects above 80%).

Awards

In 2021 I ranked as 2nd Junior in South Africa after 13 national trials for the Fitasc Compak World Championships in Cyprus, Greece. Unfortunately, due to Covid regulations, I was not able to attend the event. In addition, I won a couple of national trials in the Junior category during the 2021 season.
The 2022 Fitasc Compak World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa was an unforgettable competition. I achieved a score of 190/200 which secured me a 4th place in the Junior Category. I ended the competition as the top South African Junior, setting a South African record in this category. Overall, I ended 3rd in the entire South African entrant group. During this season I also ended 2nd Junior at the SA Championships and 3rd Junior at the African Championships.
The 2023 season proved equally exciting as I took on a new challenge in the form of English Sporting. I won several national trials in the Junior category and secured an overall victory at a national trial. I qualified 2nd Junior in SA for the 2023 CPSA English Sporting World Championships held at E.J. Churchill in the United Kingdom. At the 2023 Fitasc Compak World Championships in Greece, I ended tied 4th with a score of 192/200 in the Junior category. I also ended 2nd at the South African Championships in the Junior category later in 2023.

Collegiate goals

This is an account of my work and achievements in high school. In South Africa, grades 8 to 12 are taught in ‘high school’ or ‘secondary school’ and therefore the record of my academic achievements will commence from grade 8. I will highlight what I have achieved both in and out of the classroom. I will also demonstrate how the realization of my aspiration to study in the USA, is centered around clay target shooting as a sport. During the preparation of my applications to study accounting abroad, I concluded that the education opportunities in the USA are ‘top-tier’ quality, matching the prestigious status of clay target shooting as a sport. I do see myself excelling at both and take pride in presenting to the reader why this is so.
